Dances in the Show

Rehearsal 1 - Our teacher had come up with some choreography based upon the scene and phrase 'Hatch Opens, Stark Light'. This is a group piece with use of canon and unison. The main idea at the beginning is for us dancers to be looking up into the light, with the idea of that is where you go once you have passed, almost like an invitation almost for the patient.

Rehearsal 1 - This is an idea that our teacher wanted us to try in pairs, and it is where one person lays flat on the floor and the other person stands on top of that person. This is to create the idea and image of being unstable and then falling. This could represent the idea of what Sarah Kane felt towards the end of her life before she committed suicide.

This routine is a development of the dance that our teacher has been teaching us. This rehearsal shows us trying out new ideas with this routine and making sure that we are showing the theme of 'light' from the play that she wanted us to put across to the audience. This is the development from the videos just above. Since those rehearsals, I have done more research into my teachers theme to help me perform the routine the way she wants it too be.

This is another routine that our teacher has taught us which will be linked to the one above or be used during a separate section within the show. The main idea for this dance is too make the audience feel uncomfortable when we are right in front of them. We use fast paced breathing in front of the audience to help enhance the feeling of being uncomfortable.

In my Teacher's dance above, I have developed throughout her rehearsals with showing the theme and also the strength of the movements. For the final show, I need to make sure that my facial expressions are strong and I need to ask the teacher what I should show on my face for these routines. Also, I am going to develop the use of emphasising the movements so that they are more obvious to the audience.

Martha's Dance

These videos show the development of Martha's routine that I am dancing in. Throughout these videos I can see the development in me not just learning the routine but also putting meaning behind the movements. The main theme that I need to show within this routine is the idea of anxiety and the effects of taking drugs and how this can all result in a psychotic episode.

For the final project show, I need to make sure that I am using my expressions to show the theme but also to make sure that I am extending my lines as this routine uses a lot of arms. Also, I am going to make sure that I am putting power behind the sections to show the difference in the effects of anxiety and how someone might feel within taking drugs.

Lucy's Dance

This is Lucy's dance and it shows the development of her choreography and my dancing throughout. The main theme that I need to show through this dance is having 'thoughts' trapped in your head and you can't escape which is represented from one dancer being 'trapped' within a cage. This dance also uses gestures that I need to show in order to enhance the theme of her routine.

For the final project show, I need to make sure again that I am showing the correct facial expressions for this dance, which I need to ask the choreographer so that I am getting them correct. Furthermore, I am also going to make sure that with my gestures they are powerful and express the 'thoughts and feelings' that are inside our heads.

Leila's Dance

This is Leila's Dance and it shows the development of me dancing with another dance in the duet. It shows the main theme of empowerment over someone else and this is what I am trying to produce over the other dancer. It has to have strong movements and facial expressions in the performance.

In the final show, from these videos, I can evaluate that I need to improve on my facial expressions as well as my power behind my movements as if I don't do this, the main theme won't come across to the audience.

I confirm that the attached assessment is all my own work and does not include any work completed by anyone other than myself and sources have been appropriately referenced
