Creative Process

After looking spacing during the beginning I tried to plan ahead for more possible layouts in the diagram to the right.

This is a little bit of inspiration that I got during a lesson, however this layout didn't work.
This diagram on the left side is my original idea for the layout of my duet.

How these dances inspired me
Two Sapphires inspired me with how one dancer performed and then the other one did once the other had finished, I think most of the time I feel the need for both my dancers to perform whereas they don’t need to and it is nice to see them both do an 8 count by themselves. The synchronisation of the two really made me focus on the timing when choreographing as they looked clean and executed perfectly. I also liked how they face apart from each other but bounce back to the centre almost immediately from 0:55- 1:00.
Run Baby Run’s beginning was more similar to my conversation concept as throughout this performance the two girls really questioned and answered one another. Specifically, from 1:15- 1:17 a move they did where one girl swung her arm back and the other whacks it back down to her side, I really thought this was as if she had asked something and the precipitant instantly shut her question down which is exactly how I want my dancer’s to react to one another. Again, the beginning really brought out the idea of a question and answer type of movement with one girl pulling the other down between 0:22-0:25. This duet really put my vision of my performance into perspective physically.
Suicide Hotline didn’t relate to my pitch; however, it did link to a part in the script about the speaker talking on how they would kill themselves given the chance. I thought their movement could help me add subtle hints to suicide without making it obvious. The solo that happens within the quartet at 0:54-1:04 really should struggle which is how I want Elise to be or look as she should be tired and warn out yet still trying to survive this fight.
Fire on Fire had really powerful moves in it, I loved the connection between the two especially in the beginning up to 0:34 were they both face each other mimicking one another. The lift at 0:53 I definitely want to use as it can show how Elise wants the help off of Izzy but I want Izzy to face the opposite direction as she’s so worn out from trying to reach out previously. The use of contact work is also something I want to embrace into my idea as I want Izzy to physically show she is trying to help but Elise want accept this from anyone especially Izzy.
